The Helsinki Court of Appeal reduced the sentence of Voislav Torden, formerly Yan Petrovsky, a commander of the Rusich group, from life to 12.5 years on three war crimes counts tied to a 2014 ambush in eastern Ukraine that killed 22 Ukrainian soldiers and wounded four. The appeals court dismissed one charge, finding insufficient evidence that Torden bore responsibility for the shooting of wounded soldiers.

Torden was detained in Finland in 2023 on migration violations; Finland's Supreme Court denied Ukraine's extradition request citing prison conditions there, prompting Finnish authorities to prosecute him domestically instead.
