Prosecution paused for man arrested at Trump golf course with loaded gun

A Torrance judge suspended criminal proceedings against Jeanine John Taele, a former Marine arrested in early August near Trump National Golf Club in Rancho Palos Verdes carrying a loaded pistol, hollow-point ammunition, and a radio earpiece. His public defender argued Taele could not understand the charges against him, citing recent false claims of a 14-year State Department career; the judge ordered a mental health evaluation for September 9.

Investigators say Taele had twice visited the course ahead of a planned Trump fundraiser appearance, was photographing Secret Service agents on his second visit, and was found with a notebook containing 208 pages including sketches of the location, security schedules, and survivalist lists. A search of his home turned up an illegally modified rifle, body armor, and additional firearms. Taele faces both state felony charges and a federal charge for an unregistered short-barreled rifle, and was also wanted in connection with an unrelated robbery.
