The Russian Military Historical Society says it is preparing a new textbook on Ukrainian history to be published in Russia, according to research director Mikhail Myagkov, who described it as 'truthful' while declining to name the author, target grade level, or publication date.
Myagkov said the book will address 'the unity of the Old Rus people' and the origins of the term 'Ukrainism,' and separately raised the challenge of delivering this version of history to schoolchildren in areas still under Kyiv's control.
The announcement follows Russia's 2023 overhaul of its own history textbooks, edited by Vladimir Medinsky, and a 2026 textbook on 'Donbas and Novorossiya' that the education minister said offered 'objective information' as opposed to Ukrainian 'lies.'
