✒ FROM THE EDITORIAL DESK
‘I have spent, or will be spending’ is not a financial disclosure; it is a verb tense that lets one figure serve as both receipt and promise, checkable by no one until checking no longer matters. Whatever is happening in France gets invoked as a motive and then abandoned mid-sentence, like a rental car left at the Atlantic edge of the argument. The post also never quite says whose money this is, a detail voters might find more interesting than the line item for Rally Arenas. And a party rescued from ‘the Edge of Oblivion’ is, by its own benefactor’s account, the one already running the country.
