The North Sea oil industry is roughly half a century old, so announcing that drilling has ‘started’ is like congratulating Scotland on discovering golf. The phrase ‘wealthy again’ is doing a lot of work for a country whose finances are not, in fact, run from a Truth Social account. Ordering a sovereign ally, in capital letters, to tear down its wind turbines is not energy policy; it is a grievance with a lawn. The president owns golf property in Aberdeenshire, which makes the sudden tender concern for that ‘wonderful region’ and its view of the sea less of a mystery than the Brent crude futures market.
