The pitch to Israeli voters is an ultimatum dressed as a love letter: pick the approved man, or America will be forced to do the work it swears it does not want to do. Telling another country's electorate that anyone but one candidate is the wrong answer is not partnership; it is a ballot with the other names already crossed out. And grading a head of government on whether he wilted is how one reviews a houseplant, not a statesman.
